Education

Dr. McDowell received his medical degree from The University of Virginia, School of Medicine after completing his undergrad studies at Earlham College with a double major in philosophy and geology.  Dr. McDowell continued with post-baccalaureate work in Genetics and Developmental Biology at SUNY in Albany.  Dr. McDowell completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at The University of Virginia, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and then went on to The Hospital for Special Surgery, Pediatric & Adult Spine Surgery for his Post Graduate Fellowship.

Dr. McDowell is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.  He is affiliated with the North American Spine Society and the Montana Orthopedic Society.

Dr. McDowell’s practice focuses on complete care of adult & pediatric orthopedic spinal issues.

Dr. McDowell works with patients that are experiencing the following spine issues:

In his free time, Dr. McDowell loves spending time with his family, fly fishing, downhill skiing and furthering his lifetime commitment to continual learning.
